PlayStation Plus Users Are Getting One Of 2021's Best Games

The all-new, all-different PlayStation Plus is set to be officially rolled out in June, bringing with it a raft of new free games and perks across three separate tiers.
Sony officially confirmed the long-rumoured PlayStation Plus overhaul in a blog post last month, although certain specifics have yet to be confirmed. It's yet clear, for example, which classic PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games will be made available to Premium subscribers. Nor do we know which AAA games, exactly, will be offered to those on the Extra tier.

For now, all Sony has really promised is that the Extra tier will grant access to around 400 of "the most enjoyable PS4 and PS5 games", with some big names promised. But that's not much good to people still hesitant to open their wallets and fork out, is it?
Fortunately, we do at least have some idea of what Extra subscribers can expect, and it looks like they can definitely get ready for one of 2021's best games. Returnal, the criminally underrated procedurally generated sci-fi shooter from developer Housemarque is easily one of the PlayStation 5's best exclusives so far. Slick, atmospheric, and a dream to play - more people need to the check it out. That's why I'm so thrilled it's already been confirmed as one of the first free games for PlayStation Plus Extra!
Indeed, speaking to Eurogamer at the BAFTAs last week Housemarque managing director Ilari Kuittinen expressed his own enthusiasm for the idea, and shared his hope that Returnal can reach a new audience as a result.
"As you know, it's been a while since the release. And we know the people who get into [subscriptions] play a lot," he said. "There's no hidden cost, if you like, it's easy to get into."
I can't stress enough how great Returnal is, but it really is one of those games you simply need to play for yourself to understand. Here's hoping that's exactly what happens in June.
Other AAA games confirmed for Sony's new PlayStation Plus so far include Marvel's Spider-Man, Death Stranding, God Of War, and Mortal Kombat 11. Not bad at all.
