Sony Officially Announce Two New PlayStation 5 DualSense Colours

Featured Image Credit: Sony

This is what Sony fans have been waiting for - the black DualSense controller. The trailer for the new piece of hardware has just dropped and what can I say, except it's gorgeous. Upon the original release of the PlayStation 5, some fans yearned for a black version of the console, and although this isn't an entirely black set-up, a matte black DualSense is a welcome addition.

You can watch the trailer for the controllers below complete with space graphics and phenomenal visuals:

But that's not all, because Sony has also released a "Cosmic Red" version too. This rich, deep red will also be hitting shelves at the same time as "Midnight Black" but the release date will vary on location. They will be up for sale in June 2021.

Two designers from the Sony team, Leo Cardoso and Satoshi Aoyagi, spoke about the colour choices on the PlayStation blog where the controllers were revealed. Cardoso says that their "goal is to always find designs that will surprise and entice our fans, and these new colours are the result of an extensive selection process. We wanted the new controller colours to complement each other, as well as the original DualSense wireless controller and PS5 console, so we designed the colours around the theme of 'galaxy' as it felt like a natural progression from the original PS5 and accessories designs."

Aoyagi continues, "Both Midnight Black and Cosmic Red feature a subtle blue hue, that produces unique shades of red and black. A blue hue is also present in the original DualSense wireless controller colours, so all three colours compliment each other nicely. The controller's button colours and detailing has been tailored to complement the new colours as well."

In these early images, it's hard to see this blue hue the designers talk about but when we finally get our hands on the DualSenses we'll be looking out for it. Funnily enough, these beautiful space-age controllers were announced just as Mass Effect Legendary Edition is coming out - perhaps it's just a coincidence, but you can still read our impressions remaster here.
