'Ghost Of Tsushima' Launch Has Reportedly Been Pushed Back To A Later Date

Making room for another major release.

It was only last month that we reported Sony's PlayStation 4 exclusive open world adventure Ghost Of Tsushima finally had a release date. Now, a new leak suggests that the game will not be meeting its previously announced June 26th target. It appears the new delay was inadvertently leaked by PlayStation Canada, who briefly had the Sucker Punch developed samurai game down for an August 1st release.

The listing was first spotted by a user on the Ghost of Tsushima Reddit page, who discovered the "08/01/2020" date for the game on the homepage. It's also worth noting that the date in question appeared on the page twice. However, if you head here to check it out now, the date has been shifted back to June 26th.

So, either that August 1st release date was a genuine mistake... or the amended date is legitimate and someone at PlayStation Canada jumped the gun and posted it on the site early. Given the current global crisis, we clearly can't rule out the possibility of Sony pushing the game back. After all, The Last Of Us Part II was just recently moved from its May 29th release date to an unspecified point later in the year.

Sony explained in a statement at the time that the post-apocalyptic sequel is finished and ready to go, but stressed "the global crisis is preventing us from providing the launch experience our players deserve".

Meanwhile, Naughty Dog explained in its own statement: "We were faced with the reality that due to logistics beyond our control, we couldn't launch The Last of Us Part II to our satisfaction. We want to make sure everyone gets to play The Last of Us Part II around the same time, ensuring that we're doing everything possible to preserve the best experience for everyone. This meant delaying the game until such a time where we can solve these logistic issues."

If Sony made this decision for what's sure to be its biggest exclusive this year, there's nothing to say the company wouldn't take the same measures for Ghost Of Tsushima. Especially with no clear "end" in sight for this crisis.

There's also the fact that a recently discovered listing over on Amazon suggests that The Last Of Us Part II will now be launching on June 26th, exactly when Ghost Of Tsushima was supposed to launch. It's clear that Sony wants the Naughty Dog game to release first, and the company would probably want there to be some breathing room between what I imagine are the last big PS4 exclusives.

As such, Ghost Of Tsushima being nudged back to make way for The Last Of Us Part II would make a lot of sense. For now, we'll have to take these leaks with a pinch of salt and wait for an official update from Sony.
