I'm sure we can all agree that the Silent Hill franchise has, ironically, been quiet for too long now. Konami's survival horror series was once considered to be one of the greats. Now the mere mention of it just bums us out and makes us long for a simpler time. A time when Konami developed games.
There was a small ray of light on the horizon a few months back, when multiple reports seemed to confirm that Konami was developing more than one new Silent Hill game. Unfortunately the company swiftly put those rumours to bed. It said that while it hasn't yet "completely closed the door on the franchise", it's not coming back in the way the reports claimed. That's not terribly reassuring, is it?
While Silent Hill might not be coming back - at least any time soon - we can always idly dream about what might be. Enter Cory Barlog, who you'll likely know best as the director of 2018's outstanding God Of War. The developer responded to a tweet asking which PlayStation classic folk would most like to see remastered.

Out of Metal Gear Solid, Twisted Metal, Xenosaga and Silent Hill, he of course opted for the spookiest title of them all. He also expressed a desire to be the one to remake it. I don't know if you've played God Of War, but I for one would be absolutely fine with that. Having said that, we all know what happened last time a well-known and respected developer tried to leave their own mark on the Silent Hill franchise. It was really promising and Konami cancelled it.
So I say again, it's highly unlikely that we'll see Silent Hill come back anytime soon. Much less so under the direction of Cory Barlog, who I assume/hope is currently hard at work on a sequel to God Of War. But there's no harm in fantasising about a world where Konami actively develops Silent Hill games with the help of some of the best in the business, is there?
