'God Of War Ragnarök' Clip Teases Odin Himself, And We're Scared

Sony Santa Monica has shared a short clip of the upcoming God Of War Ragnarök which shows us two of Odin's own henchmen, and we are so hyped.

Well, the word "henchmen" is used rather flexibly here, as it's actually a pair of ravens scattering into the sky as Kratos approaches the frozen ship. According to Norse mythology, Odin owns a number of animal familiars including two ravens named Huginn and Muninn. "Huginn" means "thought" and "Muninn" means "mind" as an extra bit of trivia for you. These birds were eventually granted the ability to speak to the All-Father and describe to him what they see and hear on their journeys across Midgard.

In the 2018 game, there were over 50 ghostly ravens hiding in various locations visited in Kratos and Atreus' saga to shatter into a thousand tiny pieces. Not only did this challenge players to scour every nook and cranny for those peering eyes, but it emphasised the extent of Odin's power, especially as we're yet to actually see the god in the flesh.

Check out the majesty that is the latest trailer for God Of War Ragnarök, featuring a very changed Midgard that is now preparing for the end.

Indeed, that's the key to ensure that Odin is so fearsome, even to the Ghost of Sparta. You know in films like Cloverfield, Children of the Corn, Hereditary and so on where you're not sure what the threat really looks like, and that ramps up the scares even more?

In refusing to show us Odin's likeness at all in the reboot and only describing him through stories and anecdotes from surrounding characters, a huge level of significance has been created for Odin's eventual reveal. All that we are sure of is that he'll be one incredible boss to battle, as Mimir says, "Odin's got tricks up his sleeves we haven't dared to consider."

This isn't stopping fans from theorising what the All-Father does truly look like, and this concept from a fan that has been realised by artist Sasawat Intakul is so badass. His cloak, accessorised with raven feathers, is held with leather straps and gold fixtures studded with runes. The gold features on his belt and gauntlets as well as ringed around his gunmetal grey horns emerging from his skull. This Odin looks absolutely amazing and is certainly worthy of the fear that he strikes in God Of War.
