The first full reveal of God Of War: Ragnarök sure did show players that, yep, this is more God of War alright. What we saw in the PlayStation Showcase of September 9, aside from a older-teen Atreus who now knows about his Loki reality, did sorta feel like more of the same. But I'm certain Santa Monica Studio has many fresh tricks up its sleeve, which will make this much-anticipated sequel stand apart from the 2018 PlayStation 4 hit (one of our greatest games of all time, no less).
But what we most definitely do know about this 2022-due release is that it'll be the second and last game to feature Kratos and company stomping their way through the realms (and skulls) of Norse mythology. The PlayStation-exclusive series began in Greece, before turning north in 2018, and it now seems that wherever it goes after Ragnarök, it'll be somewhere else entirely.

As confirmed in a post-stream Q&A, Ragnarök will be the final God of War game set in the chilly climes of the frozen north, with all the other gods and monsters that call it home. Which I guess makes sense - the onset of Ragnarök sure is an end-of-times kinda deal.
On the PlayStation Blog, Grace Orlady, senior community manager at Santa Monica Studio, adds that Ragnarök will feature two main antagonists in the shapes of Freya and Thor (like we didn't guess that, from the end of the previous game), and that surviving in Midgard has become harder for Kratos and his son, as the Ragnarök-preceding Fimbulwinter traps the world of men in its icy grip.
God of War: Ragnarök will be released for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in 2022. In related news, Cory Barlog, director of 2018's God of War, has announced he's not returning to direct its sequel; all nine realms of Norse mythology will be open for exploration; and the game's depiction of Thor sure has got fans talking about whether or not it's a good look for the god of thunder.
