Several iterations of the PlayStation 4 are coming to the end of their production, it looks like, as a Japanese retailer claims that certain items in its inventory won't be restocked due to Sony ceasing production on them. As Eurogamer reports, a tweet shows a Japanese stockist of PlayStation products put a note up for customers to know certain items won't be returning after its stock runs out.

If you didn't know already, the PlayStation 5 is out. We're not sure how you could have missed it as it was one of the biggest stories in the games sphere at the end of 2020. Whether it be lack of stock, or comparisons to the Xbox Series X, it was all we were talking about. So as Sony releases its newest iteration of console, it is thinking of how to wind down production of their previous success, the PlayStation 4.

Don't worry, they're not planning to cease support on the PS4 for a while - cross-generation play, and new games coming to both platforms ensures that those who are holding onto their PS4 for a while longer aren't going to be left behind any time soon. But it does look like certain PlayStation 4 iterations are going to be discontinued before the timer on the generation is up.

According to this one photo, a Japanese retailer is claiming that some of its stock will no longer be available due to Sony ceasing production. This tweet shows shelving with the details that the retailer will no longer stock "PS4 500GB Glacier White, PS4 1TB Jet Black, PS4 1TB Glacier White, PS4 2TB Jet Black, PS4 Pro 1TB Glacier White".

It looks like it's mostly the base PS4 that will be slowly phased out while the Pro in black is safe. It makes sense to discontinue the consoles that aren't going to sell well in the next few years, but if you are one of the few that had your eye on a white PS4 for example, now might be the time to get your hands on one.
