Crystal Dynamics announced earlier this week that Spider-Man would be coming to Marvel's Avengers, its co-op action game. However, it also confirmed that the superhero would be an exclusive character for people playing the game on PlayStation consoles. This begs the question: will there be other console exclusive characters? Has Xbox got its own hero on the way?
For the good and bad, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have confirmed to us that, no, there are no more plans for exclusive heroes.
Crystal Dynamics has been open about new heroes since it first showed off Marvel's Avengers at E3 2019. At launch, players will be able to play through the game's story with Thor, Black Widow, Captain America, Ms. Marvel, Hulk, and Iron Man. Then, after launch, the roster of heroes will be expanded.

In a recent interview with our own James Daly, game designer Lauryn Ash explained "It's an ever-expanding universe and we have so much more planned. It doesn't end with the campaign."
We asked Ash and head of studio Scot Amos about what other heroes we could expect and Amos told us "we have Hawkeye and Spider-Man coming but we can't say anymore at this time. Hawkeye of course has his own story which you can play either co-op or with AI, and that's another story to explore".
However, we wanted to confirm whether the door was open to more exclusive heroes. After all, if PlayStation players are getting Spider-Man, would Xbox players be getting their own hero? We put the question to Square Enix after the interview and they got this answer from Crystal Dynamics: "Spider-Man is the only console exclusive hero we have planned".
While that doesn't rule out plans changing in the future, it does mean people planning on picking up Marvel's Avengers on Xbox shouldn't pin their hopes on their own unique content.
