Marvel's Spider-Man 2 won't be with us until 2023, but fans are already chomping at the bit to dive back into Insomniac's gorgeous Spidey universe on PlayStation 5.

Revealed last month in a stunning trailer (that we've since learned was running in real-time on a PlayStation 5) Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will see Peter and Miles team up once again to fight Venom. That's also pretty much all we know right now. The game is still a couple of years away after all, and Insomniac can't give too much away right now.

Take a look at the Marvel's Spider-Man 2 trailer again below.

Fortunately, Marvel Games head honcho Bill Rosemann has shared a few juicy tidbits with fans ravenous for more information on the webslinger's next outing. Appearing on the latest episode of the This Week In Marvel podcast, Rosemann promised that the in-development sequel will be much more of what we loved from the original game and its spinoff: Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

"The story very much continues on from Marvel's Spider-Man and Miles Morales", Rosemann teased. "I don't wanna say too much, but it's the next big chapter. There are a lot of threads, a lot of characters that were in the first two games that you'll see again. It's Miles! It's Peter! It's Venom! It's everything you loved, but more."

Interestingly, he also compared Marvel's Spider-Man 2 to the classic 1980 sequel Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. This middle chapter of the original Star Wars trilogy was easily the darkest of the three, which very much implies that Venom's arrival will most likely herald tragedy.

"If the first Spider-Man game was Star Wars, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is kind of our Empire Strikes Back," Rosemann said. "It gets darker."

I look forward to finding out how much darker Spidey's life can get in 2023.
