New PlayStation Store Sale Has Massive Discounts On 'Essential' PS4 Titles

The PlayStation Store is rapidly becoming the DFS of the gaming world, with a near-constant parade of sales and discounts. Not that I'm complaining, mind you - especially when those discounts are aimed squarely at some of the biggest and best games available on PlayStation 4.

The Essential Picks sale is live until midnight on September 16th, and does pretty much what it says on the tin. A number of "essential" PS4 games are heavily discounted, including The Last Of Us Part II, God Of War, Marvel's Spider-Man, and FIFA 20.

"The Essential Picks promotion is unleashed on PlayStation Store," Sony wrote in a blog post. "Offering up to 50% off an array of PS4 titles, it'll let you enjoy all-new adventures for less.

"Headlining the digital sale is Naughty Dog's critically acclaimed action adventure The Last of Us Part II. While continuing the story of Ellie and Joel, it also introduces new intriguing characters, all of whom are swept up in the dramatic events that unfold in a post-apocalyptic world."

Sure enough, Naughty Dog's excellent sequel is currently available on the PlayStation Store for £44.99, down from its usual price of £54.99. That's not the heftiest discount, but a tenner can make all the difference. There are much larger deals to be had elsewhere, with GTA V Premium Online Edition (£12.59), Assassin's Creed Odyssey (£15.39), and FIFA 20 (£4.19).

You can (and should) also grab Marvel's Spider-Man GOTY Edition for £22.49. That includes the excellent main game as well as the three DLC packs which provide extra challenges and tell an all-new story set after the events of the game. If you're after something a little more serious, God Of War is a steal at £11.99, while Days Gone is a mere £15.94. Based on the mixed reviews of the open-world zombie game, I still haven't actually checked it out, but the fact that it's under £20 is incredibly tempting.

If you're after a new game for less than a tenner, there's plenty to choose from. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Watch Dogs 2, and Rise Of The Tomb Raider are all under ten of your English pounds.

Those are the highlights, my friends. Is it the best sale we've ever seen from PlayStation? No, not really - but there are enough discounts on games I haven't played yet for me to know that I'm 100% going to be caving in and picking up one or two titles.
