PLAY. THIS. GAME.

I don't know how else to say this, so I'm just gonna come out and say it: Outer Wilds is the best game of 2019. It's an absolute triumph. A gorgeous, inventive, challenging, immersive, stunning mystery set in outer space that everyone, and I mean everyone, needs to play.

Outer Wilds has been available on PC since much earlier in the year, and more recently made its way to Xbox One, where I devoured it via Xbox Game Pass and found myself unable to stop thinking about the stunning world developer Mobius Digital had created.

Soon after finishing it, I became singularly devoted to cornering my friends at any opportunity and explaining to them at great length why this crowdfunded indie game is one the of the best things I've ever played and why everybody needs to play it. People have stopped hanging out with me since then. I'm not sure why.

The good news is Sony and Mobius Digital just announced that Outer Wilds is coming to PlayStation 4 on October 15, so my fervent campaign to get every one I know to play the game themselves begins anew. Seriously, you have absolutely no excuse not to check out this game.

Mobius Digital producer Kelsey Rice stressed in a blog post that a big part of Outer Wilds is uncovering the game's many mysteries for yourself, so the best advice I can give you is to go in as fresh as possible. Keep away from reviews of the game, certainly don't watch any YouTube videos, and experience this masterfully put together universe for the first time with your own eyes.

If you need some kind of elevator pitch to justify buying the game to yourself, then I'll attempt to give you one that's at light on detail as possible. Outer Wilds is best described as a blend of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Metroid Prime, Return of the Obra Dinn, and just a dash of No Man's Sky.

With absolutely zero prompts, guides, or tips, you're asked to climb into a rickety old ship and freely explore a solar system made up of a small handful of planets, each packed with their own secrets. The more you uncover, the more the bigger picture - and the secret at the heart of the game - reveals itself.

Honestly, that's all I can say. You have to experience this game for yourself or it's just not the same. October 15, my PS4 friends. I implore you, if you play any game this year, make it Outer Wilds. Please.
