PlayStation 4's Latest Update Has Been Causing Serious Errors, According To Users

The PlayStation 5 is just over one month away, and Sony is busy getting its fans ready for the transition from PS4 to next-gen. As part of this, the company recently released a brand-new system update for the PS4 that makes some pretty important changes to bring things more in line with the PS5.

PS4 update 8.00 brings together the Party and Messages system, adds new Avatars for players to use, brings in more parental control options, makes the 2-step verification process a little easier, and more. It's one of the biggest system updates we've seen in a while, but it's not without its teething problems, apparently.

A number of users have reported running into numerous issues since installing PS4 update 8.00, including friends lists not loading, party chat problems, and general stability issues. Some have gone so far as to advise you hold off on downloading the update for now, but since you need the latest version to use any network features, that's not really an option for most of us.

It's not entirely clear how widespread these issues are. The update seems to be working fine for me, but plenty of users have taken to Twitter to vent their frustrations, with the most prevalent issue seemingly being that friends lists just won't load.

Sony has yet to comment on these issues, though we suspect a fix is incoming. For now it's up to you whether or not you want to roll the dice on this latest update - although as I said before; if you want to play online you really don't have a choice in the matter.
