Sony has officially unveiled the first PlayStation 5 advert, with a promise of more information to come soon. Check out the ad for yourself below. While we're still waiting for that all-important information in regards to price and a release date, this does at least give us a clearer understanding of what Sony wants to achieve with this new console: thoroughly immersive experiences.

"In our first global digital ad for the PS5 console, you'll see the new console's features come to life through a young woman's eyes and her movements," reads a post over on the PlayStation Blog.

"It starts as she walks across a frozen lake, feeling the crack of ice at her feet. As the character senses danger, the sudden explosive reveal of the kraken from the icy surface showcases the haptic feedback sensation you can feel from DualSense wireless controller for the PS5 console.

"Sound then comes from all directions as the central character reacts to everything she hears - whether it's coming from the front, the side, above, or from behind her - showcasing the PS5 console's Tempest 3D AudioTech. Closing out the spot - as the central character draws her bow - the tension of her bowstring is a sensation you'll also feel, made possible through the DualSense wireless controller's adaptive triggers."

In the same post, various developers working on upcoming games for the console have given us a taste of what the console can do. Insomniac Games explained how we can expect these new features to work in Spider-Man: Miles Morales, one of the console's launch titles. The game's creative director Brian Horton teased that the DualSense controller will "hint" at which direction attacks are coming from, and really let you feel every punch that Miles throws.

Elsewhere, Guerrilla Games teases that Horizon Forbidden West will use the controller's adaptive triggers to ensure weapons feel truly unique and special to use. Oh, and the team working on the Demon's Souls remake added that we'll "feel every blow" in the classic RPG, which sounds kind of terrifying for a game in which death comes swiftly and often.

This advert is a sure sign that Sony is really kicking its PlayStation 5 action up a gear. Sure enough, Sony Interactive Entertainment's vice president of global marketing Mary Yee signed off by promising fans that we can expect more news in the "coming weeks". We'll be sure to update you with all the latest PS5 news as we get it.
