No matter what, there will always always be scalpers to ruin something for everyone else. It could be gig tickets, it could be streetwear fashion, it can be new tech - but someone will buy a product with the sole intention to sell it on for eye-watering prices because someone will almost always buy them anyway. The power of FOMO, right?
We've already seen with the Xbox Series X launch that people have been selling Microsoft's console for ridiculous prices and now the same is happening to the PlayStation 5. There are now listings upon listings of PlayStation 5's appearing on eBay with unrealistic price tags.
The PlayStation 5 regular edition costs £449.99 in the UK and $499 in the USA. The digital edition of the console costs £359.99 or $399.00. These listings are selling the console for double, triple, quadruple the price.
In the USA, where the console has already been released, you can see listings of up to $1300.00 in this image alone - and the seller has three PS5's ready to be sold on to anyone who is willing to pay.
Many other listings are of order confirmations - people who managed to successfully order the console after the notoriously competitive preorders were over. Many people are still struggling to get a confirmed order so this is better than nothing for some. It does beg the question, however, of how many people are using the pre-order front to scam eager buyers.
Some of these eBay listings aren't new, however. GAMINGbible reported on PlayStation 5 scalper preorders weeks ago when the first PS5 pre-orders went live. Now though, we are finally seeing the listings for those that have actually received the console early. It's just incredibly frustrating for those who want to keep the consoles for themselves for the legitimate price Sony wants to sell them for. Although it's not as annoying as seeing an Xbox Series X get smashed for fun.
