PlayStation Plus memberships are on sale in the US and Canada at the moment, and it's the perfect opportunity to snap up or renew a membership ahead of the PlayStation 5's arrival.

For those who aren't familiar, PlayStation Plus is a paid subscription service for PlayStation Network, and it offers a range of perks for players. PlayStation Plus members get early access to future games, special store discounts, and 100GB of cloud storage space for save files. It also allows players to play online, and it gives out (at least) two PlayStation games on a monthly schedule. September's offerings were PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and Street Fighter V, and PlayStation Plus members keep those games for as long as they have them in their library and stay on the service.

So, sorting out a new membership just before the PlayStation 5 launches in November is a smart move. It will let you migrate your cloud saves, which soothes a headache before it's even struck, and it will give you access to the PlayStation Plus Collection for the PlayStation 5. These are a handful of PlayStation 4 games which have been upgraded for the souped-up specs of its successor. At no extra fee, members will be able to download a number of first-party as well as third-party titles, including Bloodborne, God of War, Monster Hunter World, and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End.

Some heavy-hitters are in that Collection, for sure (read more about it, here). Furthermore, these memberships stack, so if you know you're in it for the long run with PlayStation, you might not need to renew for quite a while with this deal. As there may be even more bonuses added as part of PlayStation Plus for the PlayStation 5, knowing you've already got your membership in your pocket will make you look like the cat who's got the cream.

The launch roster for the PlayStation 5 is pretty stacked, even without the Plus Collection. Astro's Playroom, the sequel to the acclaimed Astro Bot Rescue Mission, comes pre-loaded onto every console. The hype for Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is practically palpable, and it's "built from the ground up to take advantage of the PS5 feature set". And Demon's Souls for the PlayStation 3 has gotten a glow-up from the talented team at Bluepoint Games, and its world looks nothing short of beautiful. Frightening and terrible and ghastly, but beautiful also. We have that in common.
