PlayStation 5 Size Comparisons Suggest It's An Absolute Unit

In awe at the size of this lad.

Now that we finally know what the PlayStation 5 looks like, there's one thing I really need to know. How big is this thing? Okay, so I'd also very much like some indication of how much the next-gen hardware is going to cost me, but I also need to start working out where exactly I'm going to put this curvy lad when I inevitably cave in and buy it. After all, there's only so much space on my TV cabinet.

The good news is that a number of diligent fans on the internet have created mockups of how big the PlayStation 5 will be, based on the size of the console's Blu-ray drive. Clever! The bad news is that, according to every single one of these mockups, the PS5 is an absolute unit compared to all of its predecessors - as well as every previous Xbox console.

Seriously, take a look at the tweet below. The thing is bigger than the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. Where the hell am I supposed to fit this chungus of a console?

Sony has also announced a digital-only version of the PlayStation 5, which will presumably be a touch smaller - but I can't imagine it'll be that different in terms of size. Say what you want about the GameCube, but at least that thing was compact. And undeniably amazing. Hell, no one dislikes the GameCube, what am I saying?

Obviously the overall size of the PS5 isn't exactly going to put anyone off buying it, but I'm genuinely shocked (and a little disheartened) that it's probably going to take up so much space. The good news is that it's already been confirmed that you can display the PS5 horizontally or vertically, so if you don't want the Tower Of Sauron looming over your TV, you can hopefully find space to tuck it away somewhere.

The reveal of the console design has also led to an outpouring of memes across the internet. While I quite like its curvy appearance, the majority seem to have taken against the next-gen kit for resembling an Ethernet cable, various anime characters, and the Pope's hat. No, seriously.
