Gamer Resorts To Power Tools After PlayStation 4 Fan Breaks

Gamer Resorts To Power Tools After PlayStation 4 Fan Breaks

Points for ingenuity.

This gamer had to think on their feet when the fan inside their PlayStation 4 went kaput, and their best solution was... pop the case off the console and place an industrial-grade fan above it. Not for the faint of heart, this strategy.

"The fan on my PS4 stopped working and the wireless card kept heating up and dropping both Bluetooth and WiFi simultaneously. Had to think on my toes," said Reddit user MikeVixDawgPound, sharing a photo of the behemothic power tool looming over the carcass of the console. I'll give them points for resourcefulness and points for ingenuity, but I'll be forced to mark them down for energy efficiency. Don't you know the planet is in dire straits, MikeVixDawgPound? Perhaps their house does rely on solar power or a mix of fossil fuels and biomass to provide their electricity, but there's still the matter of space. The fan is parked front and centre on what looks to be a multi-level desk with frosted glass panels. Stylish indeed, but the console plus the fan is going to be one hefty weight on that piece of furniture.

The PlayStation 4 is last-gen, long live the new-gen PlayStation 5. Hold on a minute there. This chunk of plastic and circuitry had some undeniable bangers on the console, and here's our selection of the best of the best.

Though less costly than taking it to a repair shop, it's not the first, second, third, or fourth idea that I would have had to solve this issue. The fan pictured is the Lasko STANLEY 655704 High Velocity Blower Fan, offering three high velocity speed settings and weighing in at a considerable three kilograms. Lasko says that it is "ideal for a range of applications" in the description on its Amazon listing, and adds that it is "perfect for a job site, garage, around the shop, and around the house." I'm sure that the surface is strong enough to bear the weight of the console and the power tool, but I would be concerned at the very least. "The high velocity power provides concentrated air to cool you down on a hot day and is also great for providing ventilation, or even acting as a dryer for wet areas," continued the description. Or, cooling down a console, surprisingly enough.

Also, wouldn't it be as noisy as anything? You'd need a pair of the best cancelling headphones in the business if you're wanting to sneak up on enemies in Ghost Of Tsushima. I've also got to pour one out for their housemates who will be hearing the whoosh of the fan whenever their roommate feels like gallivanting about Asgard in Assassin's Creed Valhalla. I hope, for their sake, there are no late night gaming sessions on the cards.
