PlayStation Is Surprising PS Plus Users With Free Store Credit

At the end of last month, PlayStation announced that it would be marking ten years of its PlayStation Plus subscription service with three free games: NBA 2K20, Rise Of The Tomb Raider, and Erica. Not a bad lineup, but, fans were a little disappointed that the company chose to mark its first decade of existence by... doing what it does every month anyway.

However, it seems that PlayStation might actually have a little more up its sleeve than we originally thought. Multiple PlayStation Plus subscribers are reporting having found a free £10/$10 of store credit in their PSN wallet, accompanied by a message confirming that the freebie is in celebration of the tenth anniversary.

To see if you've been sent the message, just check your notifications in the top bar, or simply head to the PlayStation Store and see if any credit has been added to your wallet. The gift started getting sent out on Friday (July 24th), and seems to hitting people's accounts at random times. I just checked again this morning, and haven't had anything.

It's not entirely clear what exactly the criteria here is. Do you need to have been subscribed to PlayStation Plus for a specific amount of time to qualify, or will everyone who's currently signed up to the service get the money eventually? I just don't know.

If PlayStation really is gifting the accounts of all 41.5 million subscribers, then yeah... that's obviously going to take a while. It's also entirely likely that the company is having to double check and verify each of the accounts gifted to make sure they're still properly active. Maybe give it a few more days before abandoning all hope, then.

In the meantime, simply revel in the joy of users who have been gifted with the magical tenner. I could have used such a boon on Saturday when I finally caved and forked out £55 for Ghost Of Tsushima, but whatever. I'm sure it'll arrive in my wallet eventually. Just be patient and don't get mad if you don't get the credit at the same time as everyone else.

In other PlayStation news, the company is currently holding a massive Summer Sale. There are hefty discounts on a huge number of AAA games, including Days Gone and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Use your £10 store credit wisely, and you might just end up with a free game.
