Sony has now addressed the announcement of its PlayStation Plus Video Pass, which was plastered across its website earlier this week ahead of an official explanation of just what this addition might be.

It advertises the integration of movies and TV shows into the PlayStation Plus subscription service, which would net you your usual collection of free games, exclusive digital store discounts and online multiplayer capabilities as well as streaming a select number of movies and TV shows. Honestly, it sounds like it would be ideal for subscribers who want to decrease the number of subscription services they're signed on for - the cost of Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus, for example, does work out to be a rather hefty monthly expense. If a couple could be combined, then it would encourage subscribers to ditch services that only provide one medium of entertainment in favour of saving some cash. This might be sounding a bit too good to be true, so check out the advert for PlayStation Plus Video Pass here and see what's on offer through the new addition.

But (and it's a big one). This PlayStation Plus Video Pass is currently only rolling out in Poland as a twelve-month test of the possibilities of the new service. It's available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 and comes at no extra cost to the subscriber, which is generous. "We know very well that we have a large base of players in Poland who stand out due to their commitment and activity in the network and social media. They also like to use VoD platforms. For us, this is the perfect combination, the perfect market, to introduce a test service as part of the PS Plus program and see what our key users think about it," explained Nick Maguire, vice president of global services at Sony Interactive Entertainment, in an interview with Spider's Web.

Oh, fair enough, then. The collection of movies and TV shows are set to be refreshed on a quarterly schedule, so Polish subscribers are able enjoy these until the end of June. They include movies like:

  • American Hustle
  • Arrival
  • Bad Boys (1995)
  • Baby Driver
  • Blade Runner 2049
  • Bloodshot
  • Charlie's Angels (2019)
  • The Equalizer 2
  • Inferno (2016)
  • Jumanji: The Next Level
  • Sausage Party
  • This is the End
  • Underworld: Blood Wars
  • Venom (2018)
  • Zombieland 2: Double Tap

And for TV shows:

  • Community (seasons 1-6)
  • Deadly Class (seasons 1)
  • Future Man (seasons 1-3)
  • Lost Girl (seasons 1-5)
  • SuperMansion (seasons 1-3)
  • SWAT (seasons 1-2)

I suppose if the trial does well there, then we might expect the Video Pass to arrive in other territories. I wouldn't hold your breath though, seeing as it'll be this time next year when we hear of the successes or missteps of the addition to PlayStation Plus.
