Who’s ready to have their backlogs swamped by a load of games that they’re almost certainly never going to finish? I sure hope you are, because I can guarantee that’s what’s about to happen when the new, improved PS Plus service launches.
In case you missed the news, the overhaul we’ve all been waiting for is nearly upon us - despite its very mixed reception. The new service is going to be split into three different tiers - Essential, the exact same as what we have now; Extra, which is basically PS Plus but with PS Now mushed in; and Premium, which will offer subscribers access to a wealth of classic PlayStation titles. This week, all of the launch titles have finally been revealed, so here’s a handy breakdown of all the PS1 and PSP titles you’ll be able to get your hands on, via the PlayStation Blog.
Before we get into it, be sure to check out our top 10 PS1 titles below...
Coming in hot from the original PlayStation, we have a total of nine titles in the launch lineup, which are:
- Ape Escape
- Hot Shots Golf (or Everybody’s Golf, if you don’t live in North America)
- I.Q. Intelligent Qube
- Jumping Flash!
- Syphon Filter
- Mr. Driller
- Tekken 2
- Worms World Party
- Worms Armageddon
So that’s, uh, a selection? Back in 2020, we ran a huge vote to figure out our readers’ favourite PS1 games, and out of all the choices, Ape Escape was by far the least popular, winning just 2.7% of votes in its group. Admittedly, it was pitted against the likes of Crash Bandicoot 2 and Metal Gear Solid, but still. At the very least, that means somewhere out there, there’s a few people reading this who are real die-hard Ape Escape fans, and must be thrilled that their golden child has been included over so many other objectively more popular titles. Syphon Filter is cool, though.

Now, I bet you’re wondering where the list of PlayStation Portable games is. There’s a reason I’ve not written it, dear reader - just one PSP game has been confirmed to be part of the launch lineup, and I thought it’d look a little embarrassing to have a sad, single bullet point for it, so here we are. It’s Super Stardust Portable, which comes from Housemarque (the team behind the more recent, and very excellent Returnal).
If you’re looking at all those and feeling underwhelmed, fear not - Sony has confirmed that a refresh of games will occur in the middle of every month, so there’s going to be more on the way soon. The new service will launch on 24 May in Asia (2 June in Japan), 13 June in America, and 23 June in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
