PlayStation Plus drops new free games with over 100 hours of gameplay

July 2023's batch of Essential tier PS Plus games will take over 100 hours to play to completion.

Yesterday, Sony officially confirmed the lineup of free games available to PlayStation Plus subscribers in July 2023, and it’s quite easily one of Essential tier’s strongest months all year.

To be fair, this month’s selection of PS Plus freebies wasn’t bad at all, either. Subscribers still have until 3 July to claim NBA 2K23, Trek to Yomi, and Jurassic World Evolution 2 - once you’ve grabbed them, they’ll be free to play at any time (assuming that you still have an ongoing PS Plus subscription, anyway). If none of those take your fancy, it’s also worth noting that there are some bonus freebies available to PS Plus subscribers right now, including an exclusive outfit for Fortnite players and a cosmetic pack for Call of Duty: Warzone fans which includes an operator skin.

Take a look at the trailer for Trek to Yomi right here.

Anyway, from 4 July, subscribers will be able to claim Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Alan Wake Remastered and Endling - Extinction is Forever, which is undoubtedly a really exciting and varied bunch. Not only that, but as highlighted by Reddit user ZXXII on the r/PlayStationPlus subreddit, they’ll collectively take over 100 hours to play to completion.

As well as an estimation of how long it’ll take to beat each of the games’ main stories, the user has outlined how long it’ll take to get the Platinum trophy for each of the three July freebies. For Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, it’ll take around 70 hours (six if you’re only interested in the main stuff), while Endling - Extinction is Forever is far more short and sweet at six hours (just four hours if you’re only doing the main story). Finally, Alan Wake Remastered will take around 25 hours to Platinum (10 hours for the main campaign).

All in all, that adds up to about 101 hours of gameplay for Platinum trophy hunters, so it’s safe to say they're going to be busy for a while. If you just want to get all of the games done as quickly as possible, it'll take you about 20 hours instead.
