PlayStation Plus January 2022 Free Game May Be Former Xbox Exclusive

PlayStation Plus January 2022 Free Game May Be Former Xbox Exclusive

I'd be okay with this

It's been a funny old year for PlayStation Plus subscribers. The last several months have seen an... uneven run of free games that have run the gamut from a little disappointing to downright “insulting”, according to some users.

There's also the fact that many PlayStation 4 owners feel like they're getting the raw deal while PlayStation 5 owners get priority. Essentially, it's been a messy 2021. Can 2022 turn things around for the online subscription service?

While we don't yet know for sure what free games await subscribers in January, one Reddit user on the PlayStation Plus subreddit has provided a pretty compelling argument for at least one of the New Year's freebies - and it was previously an Xbox console exclusive.

Deep Rock Galactic is a critically acclaimed sci-fi first-person shooter that launched last year for Xbox One and PC. It was also announced just a few months ago that the game is coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in January. As Starto211 points out, the fact the game has already been widely available for so long could well mean PlayStation pushes it in January as as PS Plus freebie in an attempt to draw in as many new players as possible.

It certainly wouldn't be the first time PlayStation has done this with a brand-new game. Fall Guys, Oddworld: Abe’s Exodus, and Hell Let Loose are all prime examples of games that hit PS Plus as soon as they were available on PlayStation.

We won't know for sure what freebies PlayStation Plus has in store for us in January until later this month. Although the way this year has been going for the monthly free games, they're almost certain to leak in the next day or so. Watch this space.
