PlayStation Plus Is Finally Getting More PS1 Games, And They're Bangers

One of the big selling points of getting PlayStation Plus Premium was supposed to be the access to classic PS1 games. Unfortunately, there really aren't that many of them available right now.

As of right now there are just 13 games from the original PlayStation era for PS Plus Premium subscribers to play. Don't get me wrong, there are some bangers in the mix, but we could do with quite a few more, couldn't we? I can't play Ape Escape forever*.

While July introduced a handful of new games for PS Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium subscribers - including a whole bunch of Assassin's Creed games - things are still fairly lacking on the retro front. The good news? Sony seems to be aware of this, and is working on bringing more PS1 games our way soon.

At least, we're assuming this is the case based on a recent leak from Sony itself. As spotted by VGC, the Italian language version of the blog post announcing July's new games mentioned Dino Crisis and Ridge Racer 2 before quickly being deleted.

This isn't actually the first time Dino Crisis has appeared in relationship to PlayStation Plus since the overhauled service launched, suggesting that the blog post simply unveiled the games a little earlier than planned.

For now, PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers can dive into 17 new games from July 19, including Stray, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, Marvel's Avengers, and a handful of great Assassin's Creed games.

Still, the people demand more retro PS1 goodness, and we're hoping Sony delivers sooner rather than later.

*On reflection I could totally play Ape Escape forever.
