Back in June, Square Enix released an expanded and enhanced version of Final Fantasy VII Remake for PlayStation 5 as a free upgrade for anyone who had previously purchased the game on on PlayStation 4.
Unfortunately, those who had claimed the PS4 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake as a PlayStation Plus freebie in March were not eligible for the new-gen upgrade. People kicked off. It was a whole thing.
Fortunately, that's finally about to change. Those who redeemed the JRPG on PlayStation Plus in March can now finally upgrade to the PS5 version of the game at no extra cost from Wednesday, December 22. The special Episode Intermission DLC starring Yuffie Kisaragi will also be 25% off on the same day, for a limited time.
The PS5 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake is definitely worth checking out, as it makes a ton of much-needed improvements to the PS4 original. The souped up new-gen port boasts unique DualSense features, enhanced textures, better lightning and weather effects, much quicker load times, and plenty more.
Of course if you didn't enjoy Final Fantasy VII Remake in terms of gameplay, none of these tweaks will do much to change your mind about the game. It's more of what you already played on PS4 - just shinier and more efficient. I'm definitely gonna dive in for round two over Christmas.
