Pornhub Was Dominated By 'Overwatch' And PlayStation In 2019

'Overwatch' beats off the competition again.

This is quite possibly my favourite time of year. Not because of Christmas (although I am a big fan), but because this is when Pornhub publishes its Year In Review. Every year, these peddlers of porn share all kinds of fascinating statistics from user activity over the previous 365 days. It's kind of like Spotify Wrapped, but you're much less likely to share the results with your parents.

So how did video games fare on Pornhub this year? I'm sure you won't be too surprised to learn that Blizzard's hero shooter Overwatch was the most-searched game on the service by some way, reclaiming the crown from last year's chart-topper Fortnite.

Searches for Overwatch were up 8%, while the battle royale took a hit and fell by 17%. I guess Overwatch 2 is a more arousing prospect than Fortnite Chapter 2? I don't know. It's not my job to work out why the results are the way they are. Thank Christ.

Pokémon saw a depressing 21% boost in searches, making it third most popular game among prospective masturbators. Minecraft inexplicably came in at fourth place with a 34% increase. I'm not even sure what Minecraft porn would look like - and I definitely don't want to know. These are franchises aimed at kids guys, come on.

2019's battle royale Apex Legends rounds out the top five. You can check out the rest of the top 15 most-searched for games below. As you can see, the release of Resident Evil 2 and Borderlands 3 this year did a big "favour" for both franchises. Resi saw a 214% boost on last year, while Borderlands enjoyed an eye-watering increase of 554% . Claire and Leon are a very attractive pair, tbh.

In terms of individual characters, it was Princess Zelda who took the crown in 2019. The Hylian royalty had over 5.6 million searches this year - that's 138% more popular than last year. Maybe Cadence of Hyrule got people in the groove?

Lara Croft and Overwatch's D.Va took second and third place respectively, while Super Mario managed to make his way into fourth place. Last year's winner, Bowsette, tumbled down 174%, but still ended up in fifth place. A respectable showing. Pikachu and Bowser also both made it in there, but that's none of my business.

Finally, console traffic. PlayStation won the console war again this year, accounting for whopping 51.5% of Pornhub traffic on consoles. Xbox consoles, meanwhile, made up a smaller 34.7%.

As far as I know, there's no way to watch Pornhub on a Nintendo Switch (yet), so it's not represented. However, the Wii U is hanging on in there with 4.3%, while the 3DS - yes, the 3DS - accounted for 0.4%. I'm not sure who's watching porn on their 3DS, but it's likely the same people searching for Pikachu.

So there we have it. Gamers continue to be a thirsty bunch, and I will never understand why some of you continue to get your rocks off to Minecraft and Pikachu. You do you, obviously - I just wish I didn't have to write about your habits.
