When it comes to console designs, we're not sure there has been any more controversial than the PlayStation 5. Whether you love it or hate it, Sony's latest bid in the console races comes in a stark, flowing white body like it should have turned up to the Met Gala or something. Since the reveal, fans have been hoping for a black version of the console to fit in with the rest of their collections but one retailer upped the stakes and showed off a PlayStation 2-themed PS5 which stole all our hearts.

When the concept for the console appeared on Reddit in December, people loved the concept of the design so much that retailer Sup3r5 announced it was going to make it a reality. A matte black exterior and PlayStation 2 detailing made everyone love the concept and a very limited number of orders made this a collector's dream item.

We had reported on Sup3r5 announcing the console and controllers going on sale on January 5th, 2021 and although it looks like the fans managed to put money down for the items, Sup3r5 has had to cancel all orders.

According to GameRant, Sup3r5 put a message on its now-deleted Twitter account, saying that all pre-orders were cancelled and that the company was issuing refunds. The reason for the cancellation is reportedly threats against the staff of the retailer. Other than the fact that the threats issues being 'credible' there isn't much publicly known about the situation.

On Sup3r5's website, it now says, "Release of our Retro Inspired controllers and consoles has been postponed. We're cancelling and fully refunding all orders in the coming days. You will receive a notification when your refund is processed."

If there does come a time where the retailer can safely distribute these PlayStations, that would be fantastic but it's never worth endangering the lives of employees just for a nice console paint job is it?
