PS5 Pre-Orders Delayed Or Cancelled Due To Allocation Numbers

It looks like Play has some limits...

It looks as though retailers are struggling with PlayStation 5 allocation numbers as multiple customers at GameStop in Ireland have been notified that they'll have to wait until 2021 to receive the console. On top of that, ShopTo customers have been emailed saying that their orders won't be fulfilled on day one/release date.

According to VGC, some of its readers have received an email from GameStop Ireland notifying them that they won't be able to ship them a PS5 until 2021. Due to circumstances out of their control they've offered customers to either remain in the pre-order queue or let them cancel their pre-order entirely.

Outside of Ireland, customers in the UK who have pre-ordered a PS5 through ShopTo have also received some similarly bad news. It appears as though the UK retailer might've overestimated its initial allocation for the next-gen console after receiving the official allocation details from Sony. However, ShopTo hasn't given an estimate to when they will be able to fulfil those orders and have encouraged customers to keep their pre-orders with the company just in case.

ShopTo boss Igor Cipolletta declined to go into detail with Eurogamer about the PS5 allocation numbers saying, "unfortunately we could not make everyone happy due to Sony's allocation." According to Cipolletta however, ShopTo is currently just emailing customers who didn't convert their initial interest registration to an actual pre-order for the PS5. This confusion between registering interest and actually pre-ordering the console has led to much confusion among ShopTo customers, many discovering that the email to convert their registration to a pre-order was actually sent straight to their junk box.

ShopTo and GameStop Ireland aren't the only retailers warning customers that they will not be receiving a PS5 when it releases in November. Amazon has also sent out a warning email to its customers saying that they might not get the next-gen console on release day. It looks as though there will be quite a few unhappy people come November, due to allocation numbers being lower than expected.

If you've not received any form of email from ShopTo, GameStop, or Amazon then there's no need to panic as your pre-order is likely still secured. But you also might want to double check your junk mail box just in case you might've missed something.
