We need great stories.

God Of War. Marvel's Spider-Man. Uncharted 4. Horizon Zero Dawn There's no denying that when it comes to immersive and well-crafted single-player narratives, PlayStation has absolutely nailed it this gen. That's not to say Xbox hasn't excelled in other areas, but this is where the PS4 really established itself as a console.

If you're one of the fans who fell in love with the PS4 precisely because of the console's approach to single-player games, you're in luck. The company has once again reiterated its commitment to delivering all-new story-focused single-player games as we head into the PS5 era.

PlayStation Worldwide Studios boss Hermen Hulst recently had a chat with the PlayStation Blog, where he touched on the incoming next-gen console. When asked about the direction he sees the company and its games going in, Hulst had some very positive things to say regarding single-player.

"We're very committed to dedicated hardware, as we were before," he explained. "We're gonna continue to do that. And we're very committed to quality exclusives. And to strong narrative-driven, single-player games."

This continued love for single-player narrative experiences doesn't mean PlayStation isn't willing to try new things with the PS5 though, oh no. Hulst also teased that the company is very open to trying new things, whatever that might mean.

"At the same time, we're going to be very open to experimentation, to new ideas," he said. "Just trying things out to see what works. I think that's also very much part of the DNA of Worldwide Studios."

Naughty Dog

While currently completely unconfirmed, it's expected that the PS5 will play host to sequels for God of War, Marvel's Spider-Man, and Horizon Zero Dawn. It's also a safe bet that we'll get a new game from Naughty Dog, though whether that's a return to Uncharted, The Last Of Us, or something brand-new remains to be seen.

This is much less certain, but it's also my fervent hope that we get a sequel to FromSoftware's Bloodborne, because it truly is one of the greatest games I have ever played. Give me Bloodborne II, PlayStation, and I'll never ask you for anything ever again. Until I start asking for Bloodborne III, at least.

For now, it looks like the PS4 will be bowing out with at least three more major single-player adventures. There's Final Fantasy VII Remake on April 10th, The Last Of Us Part II on May 29th, and Ghost Of Tsushima on June 26th. Plenty to look forward to, then.
