'P.T.' To Live On In 'Silent Hills' Revival For PS5, Claims New Report

Rumours of a Silent Hill reboot have been swirling for a while now, but this latest report might just be the most exciting one yet. According to new, relatively credible sources, Silent Hill is indeed coming back... in the form of a Silent Hills revival for PS5. Silent Hills was, of course, the doomed collaboration between Konami, Hideo Kojima, and Guillermo del Toro.
Unfortunately, all we ever really saw of it before Kojima and Konami's infamous falling-out was 2014's P.T., or Playable Teaser. But that short, harrowing demo created such a lasting-impact that fans, hackers, and modders are still playing it to this day in search of new secrets.
These new rumors come from Twitter user Aesthetic Gamer and Rely on Horror, two sources with a reliable history when it comes to reporting on survival horror. Back in January, AestheticGamer and Rely On Horror were the first to report with some confidence that Konami had multiple Silent Hill games in development. These claims were later backed by Eurogamer, and Konami swiftly confirmed that it was "looking into ways" to revive the series.
If these new reports can be trusted (and I'm willing to bet they can), it seems that the relationship between Kojima and Konami has started to thaw. While the Silent Hills revival isn't 100 percent over the line yet, it's understood that Sony is currently serving in some kind of mediation role between Kojima and Konami to try and help both parties come to an understanding.
Assuming this all goes as planned, Kojima would have "full creative freedom" for Silent Hills, which would apparently make use of Sony's next-gen headset. It's also rumoured that the game would be a narrative experience a little like Until Dawn or Telltale's The Walking Dead, which tracks with earlier reports that suggested one of the Silent Hill games in development would be episodic in nature.
All of this also seems to line up rather nicely with everything Kojima has been teasing recently. We know he wants his next project to be a horror game, and that he's been in talks to work with Norman Reedus again, who appeared at the end of P.T. Fans also managed to convince themselves that a recent tweet from the developer was confirmation of a new Silent Hill game. I thought they were reaching at the time, but I'm not so sure now.
In addition to Silent Hills, it sounds like we'll also be getting a more traditional Silent Hill reboot from SIE Japan Studio. According to the report, it's being helmed by the original game's writer and director Keiichiro Toyama. Masahiro Ito, who was creature designer on the first four games is also involved, along with Akira Yamaoka, who served as composer for the majority of the franchise.
As always, I'd advise you treat these rumours with a grain of salt until we get some kind of official confirmation. But nearly everything we've heard about the return of Silent Hill since the start of this year seems to be lining up in a number of exciting ways. There are whispers that we'll be getting official word from Konami or Sony as soon as this month, so make sure to keep 'em peeled. Your eyes, I mean.
