Next month, Ratchet & Clank will be given away for free by PlayStation for its Play At Home initiative, encouraging the community to stay safe in the pandemic and find a new game to enjoy while socially distancing from friends and family. That's nice news, isn't it?

"The past 12 months haven't been easy," said PlayStation president and CEO, Jim Ryan, in the announcement. "And I think we're all hopeful that we may be starting to see some flickers of light at the end of this long COVID-19 tunnel thanks to the tireless work of the medical community and people around the world. In these historic times, the team at PlayStation wanted to thank the community by giving something back. These days, we could all use something to look forward to." Excitingly, the Play At Home programme is set into motion in March and will extend until June, guaranteeing free games and entertainment offers for three whole months. The best part is that users won't need a PlayStation Plus subscription to access these goodies, and there's a comfortable window of time with which to claim the game.

Thanks to a collaboration between the company and developer Insomniac Games, Ratchet & Clank will be free to download between March 2nd and April 1st. Once redeemed, that's it - the game is yours permanently. The game is a remake of the original which was released in 2002, and turns out fourteen years of experience and perspective does a world of good to an already impressive game. Of course, the leap from the PlayStation 2 and the PlayStation 4 is mega, and Insomniac Games made the most of every upgrade between the generations. Though it features lots of the planets, levels and familiar faces from the first game, they were treated to a major makeover and the new weapons from the newer received praise for their use and integration into the prologue of Ratchet and Clank's adventures.

And, it provides the perfect springboard with which to jump into Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart when it arrives on the PlayStation 5 in June. In April 2020, PlayStation released Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, Knack 2 and Journey for free for the Play At Home initiative, and expressed that the teams behind the giveaways were "thankful" to be able to support players in uncertain times. It's heartwarming to see that the promotion will continue and brighten gamers' days for a little while longer.Featured Image Credit: Insomniac Games
