If the name Diogo Jota doesn't mean a whole lot to you, let me help. A breakout star of Wolverhampton Wanderers' rise from the Championship to the Premier League in the 2017-18 football season, the Portuguese international then helped himself to 26 goals for Wolves across 85 further appearances, before being transferred to the current Premier League champions Liverpool in September 2020. Injury has rather limited his playing time at the Reds in 20-21, but nine goals from 17 appearances should tell you that when he's on his game, Jota is really rather good.

Brief football context delivered, now the gaming news: Diogo Jota isn't just handy on the IRL pitch, but also excels at the virtual version of the beautiful game. As picked up by Push Square, the Liverpool forward is currently the number one player on the PlayStation version of FIFA 21's Ultimate Team mode.

Jota tweeted the achievement on February 6th - the day before Liverpool lost 1-4 at home to current Premier League leaders Manchester City. Liverpool are now 10 points behind City, down in fourth position, and have played a game more - so it's not looking likely that they'll be retaining their title. Which will disappoint at least one person on the GB team, but look, I'm a Southampton fan, so trust me: things could be worse.

But hey, at least one of Liverpool's players is on top of the world, right now. Push Square adds that Jota has won 30 of his last 30 FIFA 21 matches, and that in April 2020 he won the FIFA 20 ePremier League Invitational, a competition played out by professional footballers. He beat Liverpool and England full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold in the final with a Golden Goal decider in extra time - I wonder if that was a talking point in the dressing room, once the two became teammates. Clearly, this lad's decent with a DualShock in his hands.

In related FIFA 21 news, remember that Ultimate Team players can now track their spending, so things don't get out of hand. And a late-202 study found that playing EA's football game can actually be good for your health - which is fortunate, in our locked-down times.
