Silent Hill Could Officially Return In This Week’s PlayStation 5 Reveal

A not-so-meaningless tomorrow, maybe…

It feels like no week passes, right now, without a reboot of Konami's classic survival-horror series Silent Hill being seemingly confirmed or outright denied. Frankly, it's all becoming as confusing as actually being stranded in all that awful, nightmarish fog.

And this week starts no differently, with rumours circulating that yes, indeed, a reboot is coming - and that its confirmation could be made public with the PlayStation 5 reveal on Thursday, June 4th.

A known games industry leaker sort, AestheticGamer (probably not their real name), has tweeted (thanks, Gamesradar+) that the Silent Hill "stuff is all true" and that the game - which might be developed by Sony's Japan Studio - will be "revealed on the 4th (of June) or August". Which means we might get to see a new Silent Hill game at the same time as the PS5 reveal.

And that makes sense, right? We know Thursday's PlayStation 5 event will give us a look at some of the games coming to Sony's new console - and a new Silent Hill game, as an exclusive, certainly wouldn't hurt to build hype for its release, at the end of the year (October, November... we'll know for sure, soon).

The last time there was a Silent Hill title in the works, namely the Kojima-and-del-Toro Silent Hills, it was destined to be a PlayStation exclusive - so it might be that the project has been resurrected in some fashion, albeit with different people at the helm. Then again, we're also led to believe that more than one Silent Hill project is in the works - so what we see this week (or in August) could well be that game, instead.

Certainly, AestheticGamer is of the opinion that it's the latter we'll be seeing - an all-new game, directed by Silent Hill royalty Keiichirō Toyama - the director and writer of 1999's original Silent Hill.

In a tweet directly below their comment on Silent Hill, AestheticGamer addressed another big horror series gearing up for a comeback. Regarding the known-to-be-in-development Resident Evil 8, they said:

"Resident Evil 8 - I have no idea when the reveal is, but it was supposed to be E3 originally. It's a cross-gen game, similarly I think August is the latest it'll show up, but I suspect it'll show up somewhere this month."

That's a lot of "I think" - but we're all fairly confident that Silent Hill is going to break cover soon, based on multiple reports, whispers and rumours.

Whatever Thursday's PS5 reveal does bring us, it'll be more than we know for sure right now - and that, in and of itself, is pretty exciting. And Silent Hill coming back would be a bonus, I'm sure, for many a fan of pants-pooping scares and angry lads with triangles for heads.
