'Spider-Man' Looks Next-Level Running On An Ambilight TV

We don't need a new TV but it doesn't mean we don't want one

Next-gen for some people is just about shinier and nicer lights on your screen. Ray-tracing, better graphics, fast load times are all really about having a better-looking monitor at its core. Pretty lights are pretty - who would have thought?

Others, however, have taken lighting to the next level and hooked up Spider-Man to a Philips Ambilight TV and my goodness doesn't it look good? Even more gorgeous hues to stare at as you play games.

If you're unfamiliar with bias lighting, as it's known generally, it's the effect you'll see with TVs and monitors where it emits a glow onto the wall behind it. As you watch a show, a film, or play a game, the glow emitted onto the wall behind the TV will reflect what's happening on screen. Is the sea on screen? Boom, blue glow. How about a luscious jungle? Boom, green wall. It's really that simple, but it's very effective

It's a neat tool for immersion too as you feel closer to the action happening on the screen, and that's certainly the case for Spider-Man when user Tornado7777 on Reddit showed of their TV while playing the game.

The video on Reddit shows the player swinging around New York they play. The best part of the video is when you see Spidey swinging into an area of neon while the wall behind the tv glows a deep red - it's making us think really hard about if we want new TVs.

One user on Reddit shared an experience with this effect that shows just how effect it can be. User ConstantSignal says when asked if the lights are distracting, "I was recently playing days gone on my Phillips Ambilight tv. PS5, 4K, HDR, dark room, 3D sound. There's a segment in a mine where it's basically pitch black. When you fire your gun, the muzzle flash is so bright it illuminates the whole screen, which in turn makes the Ambilight flash bright white/yellow, which in turn made the whole dark room I was in flash bright white/yellow.

"Each time I fired I had to blink from the flash, I'd miss some shots and lose track of enemies in the chaos and after a lot of shooting my eyes had to readjust to the dark. One of the most immersive experiences I've had in gaming."

Although yes, you don't need these lights, they are a little gimmicky, seeing how they look is just wonderful. Maybe we'll put it on our Christmas list.
