Dirty tactics

I don't know about you, but sharing my console controllers with my kids as I do, I sometimes pick up a pad and find something sticky and icky on it. Some kind of sugary gloss or tacky muck that I need to wipe away with a tissue or pick at until it cracks free. And I know we all sometimes run a nail around the crevice between the front and back of a pad, just to check there's no ugly grot in there. Don't act like you've never done that, found a lil nubbin of gloop on the end of your pinkie, and thought ewww. We all have.

Well, some consoles and controllers are dirtier than others - and TikTok user TheBomb602 recently got to grips with an exceptionally filthy unit. The DualShock 4 you see at the start of the video below is already in pretty rough nick before we go in closer and... what even is that? How? Why?

TheBomb602 gets stuck in though - presumably after a few deep breaths and a shot or two of something strong - with an arsenal of deep-cleaning equipment: toothpicks, cotton buds, rubbing alcohol, a microfibre cloth and an old toothbrush.

Amazingly, he takes a controller that looks like someone sneezed themselves to death over it and transforms it into a peripheral that I think any of us would pick up without a second thought. Which, given the absolute state of the thing at the start of the video, represents a resounding success.

He then moves onto the PlayStation 4 console and... look, reader, I don't know what else to say here except, please, treat your gaming hardware with at least a little respect. Do not let it get as rough as what's on show here, when the console's disassembled. Two words you never want to hear in relation to the innards of a games system: "roach" and "infestation".

If this video's got you inspired, please, give your controllers the once over. Because the last thing we actually need to see is more disgusting videos like this. But since we had to see it, you have to see it too. It's only fair.

And if you really need to watch more grot being, um, un-grotted, here's a laptop that's utterly caked in filth, inside and out. You animal.
