One of the year's biggest releases has slipped out of the first quarter.

We've been waiting for the Final Fantasy 7 remake since it was announced at E3 back in 2015. Well, that's officially waiting anyway, as fans have been hoping for this remake for a whole lot longer. Still, it seemed like that long wait was nearly over, as the first part of the redesigned game was due to be released on March 3, 2020. However, Square Enix has now announced that their intended release date is slipping further into the year ahead.

"We know that so many of you are looking forward to the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake and have been waiting patiently to experience what we have been working on," producer Yoshinori Kitase says in a statement. "In order to ensure we deliver a game that is in-line with our vision, and the quality that our fans who have been waiting for deserve, we have decided to move the release date to April 10, 2020."

Kitase continues, explaining that the delay is "to give ourselves a few extra weeks to apply final polish to the game and to deliver you with the best possible experience. I, on behalf of the whole team, want to apologize to everyone, as I know this means waiting for the game just a little bit longer."

An extra month isn't the worst delay it could have been - after all, Square Enix has also announced that it is delaying Marvel's Avengers from May until September. This is clearly a year of delays, as The Last of Us Part II, Watch Dogs: Legion and Gods & Monsters have all been delayed later into the year.

While this delay is a shame, if it's any consolation, the game is worth waiting for. We played Remake at Gamescom last year and had a great time with the new combat.

This delay also means we're going to have a very full April. That month already sees the release of Half-Life: Alyx, Cyberpunk 2077, and the Resident Evil 3 remake.
