The first set photo of the upcoming The Last Of Us TV show - in the works with HBO - has been shared by one of the actors, and it might be the very beginning of Joel's story.

With Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal playing Ellie and Joel, the Internet couldn't contain its excitement for the adaptation, especially as fans had been waiting a long while for news. In 2014, Spider-Man director Sam Raimi was attached to a movie adaptation of the acclaimed game, yet the project stalled following a disagreement between creative director Neil Druckmann and Sony. However, all that was needed was a change of tack. To represent the events of the game through the episodic structure of a TV show would do the emotional weight and gripping narrative of the game justice, and HBO, Naughty Dog and Sony Pictures Television announced The Last Of Us would be on its way to the small screen last year.

If you've played the original inside out and back to front, you might believe that you know how this show is going to go. Hold your horses there, because Druckmann has confirmed that there will be some surprises in store. "HBO's been great in pushing us to move away from hardcore action and focus more on the drama of the character. Some of my favorite episodes so far have deviated greatly from the story, and I can't wait for people to see them," said the creative director in an interview earlier this year.

The tragedy of the ending of The Last Of Us forms the foundations of the sequel, and it takes the two heroes to the darkest recesses of their psyche when sparks fly between their settlement and another group of survivors. Check out our review of The Last Of Us Part II right here.

This set photo, shared by actor Gabriel Luna, is very recognisable to players, though. Luna is playing Tommy in the show and beside him in the passenger seat is a beaming Pedro Pascal. Leaning over from the back seats is Nico Parker, who plays Sarah. The crew with their face masks on are also presumably smiling for the photo and the sun is shining on Calgary, Alberta, where filming is taking place. My money is on this being a scene from the very start of the story, where the three attempt to escape Austin, Texas as the infection ravages the city. Take a look below:

"Already love these folks. #MillerTime #thelastofus," reads the caption from Luna. Alternatively, this scene could be a flashback to one of the holidays that the three took together before the apocalypse. It's obviously very sunny in the photo whereas the beginning of the game is set in the middle of the night. Of course, there could be some elastic trickery to be done to transform this into the night, but we do know that the show is going to take some creative liberties with the story every now and then. The Last Of Us is likely to arrive in late 2021 or early 2022, so we'll keep you in the loop.
