HBO's star studded adaptation of The Last Of Us is moving and shaking along, and our latest update is that one of the most important characters of the game has been cast.

Originally, Tess was intended to be the antagonist of The Last Of Us. As smugglers, Tess and Joel would have been tasked with Ellie's extraction from the Quarantine Zone in order to develop a cure for the cordyceps virus from her innate immunity. However, Tess's brother would have lost his life in the conflict between the smugglers and the military and she would have blamed Joel for the tragedy. In her rage, she would have hunted Joel and Ellie across the country with a ragtag group of henchmen, and eventually caught them after their trip to Salt Lake City.

Ellie would have discovered where Joel was being held hostage and tortured and she would have rescued him from what would have been certain death. Of course, in the upcoming show, there is still a little wiggle room for events to play out in unexpected ways. "Some of my favorite episodes so far have deviated greatly from the story, and I can't wait for people to see them," said creative director Neil Druckmann.

In the game, Tess is played by Annie Wersching, yet the live-action adaptation will see Anna Torv step into the shoes of the fan-favourite character. Torv is known for her role as Olivia Dunham in Fringe, and her performance netted her a nomination for the Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series and four Saturn Awards for Best Actress on Television.

You might also recognise her as Wendy Carr from Mindhunter on Netflix, and she has dabbled in video games in Heavenly Sword as the heroine Nariko. Regarding The Last Of Us, we at GAMINGbible reckon that she's an excellent pick for Tess and it's possible that we'll see some photos of her soon on set with Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey and company. We'll keep you in the loop once we hear more.
