Naughty Dog has confirmed that The Last Of Us Part 2 just hit a major development milestone. Writing on the PlayStation Blog, the studio's Director of Communications Anne Meyer teased that the hotly anticipated post-apocalyptic sequel has entered the final stages of development.

"We are thrilled to say that we've entered the final stretch of production and are putting the finishing touches on The Last of Us Part II as you read this," Meyer wrote.

"The end of development puts us one very large step closer to launch. We know all of you have been so patient over the last few years, so it's been thrilling to see our game taking on its final shape and knowing that means it will be in your hands soon. Today, we're kicking off regular communications about The Last of Us Part II with a few awesome announcements."

You might remember that The Last Of Us Part 2 was actually supposed to launch this month, February 21st. Unfortunately, Naughty Dog announced late last year that it would be delaying the game to May 29th. The game's Director Neil Druckmann said at the time that "we realized we simply didn't have enough time to bring the entire game up to a level of polish we would call Naughty Dog quality".

I'm certain delaying the game was the best thing for everyone, but it hurts me just a little bit to think about the fact that the game was supposed to be ten days away... and is now 108 days off launch. Still, I'm sure it'll be worth the wait. Meyer's latest update certainly suggests that we won't be seeing anymore delays, anyway.

Oh please, Naughty Dog, no more delays.

In addition to the quick development update, Meyer also shared some news regarding merchandise and an upcoming opportunity to go hands-on with The Last Of Us Part 2.

The previously sold-out limited edition (which you can see in all its glory below) is back in stock and available to pre-order from February 13th. Once again though, it'll be in limited quantities and is only available in the US and Canada so... that's a shame.

Finally, the first ever public demo of The Last Of Us Part 2 will be held at PAX East later this month. From February 27th until March 1st, attendees at the Boston-based event will be able to play through the first hour of the game and get "a small glimpse" at what's to come.

Obviously this is a bit of a kick in the teeth for those of us who can't get to Boston all that easily. Hopefully Naughty Dog will unveil more hands-on opportunities as we get closer to release. If not, only 108 to go guys. We can do this.
