PlayStation 5 Goes From Completely Off To Gaming In 45 Seconds

No time to wait.

Every gamer knows that speed is king when it comes to getting into a game. Loading times can be a real mood killer when you're deciding what you want to play, but those long moments staring into the black mirror questioning your life choices are about to become a thing of the past with the PlayStation 5.

We've been trying the next generation console and have been absolutely blown away by the experience which you can read all about in our featured review. One of the things that stood out the most, was the absolute withering speed at which you can go from a stone cold boot (ie, the PlayStation 5 is completely turned off and minding its own business) to being in a game of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. That time? Forty-five seconds. Yeah.

This is thanks to the console's buttery smooth SSD which allows all games to be loaded up in next to no time at all. What's just as impressive is that we clocked going from the PS5's dashboard to in a game at just 16 seconds, which shows a lot of that time is the console waking up and apparently pouring coffee directly into its eyeballs to get the juices flowing.

You may have also seen in the news that the basic retail PS5 has a storage capacity of 825GB. Or at least that's what it says on the box. The actual internal storage is displayed as 664GB in the system settings, which means there's 161GB somewhere unaccounted for, so what gives?

Well, the PS5 comes pre-loaded with Astro's Playroom, which is a fun little platformer mainly designed to show off what the mind-blowingly excellent DualSense controller can do. Then there's the console's operating system which undoubtedly eats into that storage space a little.

Mind you, if it's a trade off of some storage space to get into a game in three quarters of a minute? I'll take that quite happily, thank you very much. You can always buy yourself some external storage after all. Just maybe remortgage your house before you do. They spenny.
