In a move that all but confirms massive PlayStation 5 news is on the way soon, Sony has just launched the official PS5 homepage. It would seem that the multiple reports of a February reveal event for the next-gen console might just have some truth to them after all.
The homepage is... well, it's a little barren right now, which is to expected given how much we know about the PS5 at the moment (not that much at all). It doesn't offer a first look at the console in all its glory, nor does it really tell us anything we didn't already know. What it does do, is allow interested fans the chance to sign up for all the latest news regarding PS5 games, pre-order details, and pricing.
Sony also once again confirmed that the PS5 will be launching during the holiday period this year, so don't expect that to change at this point. You can check out the website and get signed up for further updates right here, if you so wish.
"We've begun to share some of the incredible features you can expect from PlayStation 5," the website reads. "But we're not quite ready to fully unveil the next generation of PlayStation. Sign up below to be among the first to receive updates as we announce them, including news on the PS5 release date, PS5 price and the upcoming roster of PS5 launch games."
A PS5 February reveal event has been rumoured for quite some time now. The reports first came as the result of a "leaked marketing email" that was shared on NeoGaf and 4Chan . The email promised that the event would showcase "the future of Sony PlayStation to the whole world" on February 13th.
The alleged email went on to claim that a number of AAA publishers and developers, including Ubisoft and EA, had been invited to the event to show off their next-gen titles. It was also expected that Sony would be showing off a few PS5 exclusives. At the time, most treated the email and the claims made within it with a healthy degree of scepticism, due to the fact it had been shared by a completely unverified source.
More recently however, a more legitimate source suggested that February is indeed the month the PS5 is finally unveiled. David Jaffe, a key developer on hit PlayStation franchises God of War and Twisted Metal, claimed late last month that the event was real, and "less than four weeks away" - seemingly supporting the alleged February 13th date.
Again, this was hardly official confirmation, but factor in the sudden, sneaky arrival of a PS5 homepage? It certainly looks like something is going to happen, and happen soon. We'll be keeping our eyes on the website, and will update you as we learn more.
