Turok Could Finally Be Headed To PS4, According To Leak

Turok and roll.

It's been far too long since we've had any kind of dinosaur-focused action/horror in video games. Jurassic World Evolution came out not so long ago and is an excellent park-builder... but I want to feel the fear. I want the creeping dread that a scaly beast is waiting around the corner to bite my face off, or the pulse-pounding action of fighting off a dozen prehistoric nasties at once.

If you're also looking to scratch that itch, the good news is that the remastered version of the 1997 classic Turok could be headed to PlayStation 4. A Trophy list for the game has been spotted over on Exophase (thanks, PushSquare), implying that a release is imminent. It's already been available on Xbox One for a few years now, so it's about time PlayStation got it.

While it's not the new game we might have been hoping for, Turok is still an absolute classic that's well worth revisiting. Released for N64 and PC back in 1997, it's basically DOOM with dinosaurs. If that pitch doesn't excite you, I don't really know what more I can say.

Developed by Iguana Entertainment, Turok was highly regarded for its visual polish and smooth controls. Has it aged brilliantly? Probably not. But the game was subsequently re-released for Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, so it clearly still has an audience.

As for whether or not this re-release could lead to a revival? I wouldn't hold your breath. The Turok franchise has been on ice since the 2008 reboot launched to a decidedly muted critical and commercial reception. Last year saw the release of a title called Turok: Escape From Lost Valley, but believe me when I say it's absolutely nothing like the gritty FPS franchise you remember.

To be fair, Escape From Lost Valley is an adaptation of the Turok comic series which dates back to the 1950s, rather than a continuation of the game franchise. That's likely why it's s a cute isometric co-op game instead of a violent shooter... but after waiting so long for a new entry, I don't think announcing a Turok game like this went down too well with the fans at all.

If you're really desperate to get some Turok back in your life, I'd recommend sticking with the 1997 classic. Who knows? If enough people pick up the PS4 re-release, it could stir a brand new entry to life.
