It looks like we may still have a while to wait for the upcoming Uncharted movie. Filming was scheduled to start "this summer", but Spider-Man star Tom Holland has revealed that everyone got sent home on the first day of shooting because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Speaking to Jimmy Kimmel from his home in London, Holland explains how they were all ready to start filming, but everyone was sent home.
"I'm not too sure," said Holland, in response to Kimmel's question about whether Spider-Man would start filming in July as planned. "I was in Berlin making a film called Uncharted with Mark Wahlberg, and we were all ready to go and we went to set for Day One shooting, and then we got shut down and we all got sent home. So whether we shoot [Uncharted] first or if we shoot Spider-Man first, I'm unclear."
You can watch the entire interview in the video above - here for a direct link. And if you want to jump straight to the bit where Uncharted is mentioned, skip to 2:35 mark.
It's been a couple of months since we've heard anything about the (incredibly) long-awaited Uncharted movie which was first announced back in 2008. Of course, this is hardly surprising due to the current global situation; but at least this news can go some way to reassure us that it is still very much happening.
What we know right now is that the Uncharted movie will be directed by Ruben Fleischer (Venom and Zombieland: Double Tap). The cast includes Tom Holland as a younger Nathan Drake, Mark Wahlberg as Victor "Sully" Sullivan, and Antonio Banderas also has a role but it's not yet clear who he will play.
Holland also recently stated how much he likes the script for the Uncharted movie in an interview with IGN. "I think what Uncharted offers that most video games films don't is that it's an origin story to the games. So if you played the games, you haven't seen what's going to happen in the film. And if you haven't played the games, you're going to enjoy the film because it's information that everyone else is getting at the same time. But I'm super excited to make that movie and it's been a long time coming."
This is also something that Holland touches on during the Kimmel interview above when he discusses both Uncharted and Spider-Man.
"Both movies are being made and they're both really strong and the scripts are fantastic so whatever happens, happens but I'm ready to play both. So, ready to go."
