A soldier in the United States' Space Force has been demoted for skipping drills so that he could get hold of a PlayStation 5. It's enough to make you think even the people involved with the USSF don't take it seriously, isn't it?
As I'm you probably remember, outgoing U.S president Donald Trump helped nudge the world one step closer on its path to becoming a galactic empire when he played a key role in establishing the USFF in December last year. It attracted plenty of ridicule at the time, and the actions of this one PlayStation-loving soldier don't appear to have helped the organisation's flailing reputation.

TaskAndPurpose (via VG247) reports that a member of the force turned up 30 minutes late for a fitness lesson. The reason? He was searching a nearby Target store for a PlayStation 5, which has proven itself a very difficult console to come by, to be fair to him.
According to leaked documents posted to the Air Force amn/nco/snco Facebook page earlier this week, the former Senior Airman was demoted to Airman 1st Class in light of his transgression. He probably didn't help himself any when a superior contacted him telling him to get to class, only for him to respond "yolo, PS5 > letters of discipline." I'll sleep soundly tonight knowing this dude is defending the galaxy from aliens, that's for sure.
"You were late to work and insinuated to your supervisor that buying a PlayStation was more important to you than the disciplinary consequences of your actions," the letter read. "Your actions are an extreme deviation from the professionalism expected of you as a member of the armed forces."
TaskAndPurpose notes that a spokesperson for Space Delta 8 could not outright confirm the authenticity of the document, though admitted that the formatting and style of the document matches official papers. Given everything that's happened this year, I'm perfectly prepared to believe this is the real deal.

Here's hoping the soldier at least got his hands on the PlayStation 5 he was after to make that demotion worth it - lord knows it's hard enough to get your hands on one here in the UK right now.
