In the past couple of years, we’ve seen a massive resurgence in the popularity of Pokémon cards. Combining the levels of hype that you’d get from a 90s school playground with the financial power of now grown adults with jobs made for an explosive mix, and one that led to the demand for these sparkly pieces of cardboard skyrocketing.

Pokémon cards can be so much more than cards, though - those of us who enjoyed collecting them as kids all still likely have a massive amount of nostalgia attached to them. For one Reddit user though, they’re even more important - as reported by Dexerto, this Pokémon fan has been going viral on the r/PokemonTCG subreddit after they shared pictures of an incredible card collection left to them by their grandma.

Before we get into it, take a look at a couple of the GAMINGbible team pulling some amazing Brilliant Stars cards below.

“Hey everyone, this is my grandma and I, she sadly passed away in April. Last year she had mentioned to me she had Pokémon cards she opened in the 90s. But I never really thought about it much more than that. Little did I know, she had a huge binder full,” EnabIe wrote. “I was in disbelief when I found it. Sent them out for grading and they came back last week, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. This was a great way to [honour] her, she collected a lot of different things and I guess this was one of them. Must’ve put all of these straight into the binder upon opening as they were all in great condition.”

As you can see from the pictures, the user’s grandma really did have some great cards - from two CGC grade nine holographic base set Mewtwos, to the legendary base set holographic Charizard, which, as part of the grading process, has been given the label “Grandma’s Charizard”. I’m not afraid to admit that seeing that gave me more than a small lump in my throat.

Other users on Reddit have been showing their support: “I’m sorry for your loss. Losing a loved one is always hard. I find what you did a touching and loving tribute to her. It’s a great way to [honour] her and an amazing keepsake you’re able to have of her,” wrote jumbaligha. “Beautiful collection! It’s awesome she took such good care of them through so many years, sorry to hear about her passing,” commented FlamingWolf1.

I’m not crying, you are. Rest in peace, grandma.
