Pokémon Legends: Arceus launches today so I'm assuming you're reading this story to while away the time as you wait for your copy to arrive at your door. There's an enormous amount to look forward to in the game thanks to its revolutionary chops and changes to the series' standard, and if you're not too fussed about sneak peeks, there is a way to enter a first-person perspective in the Hisui region.
"By keeping the game’s premise on facing the actual Pokémon themselves, Arceus excels at making you, the player, feel like a Pokémon master in the making," said James in his review of the adventure, adding that this is the game that blends fans' wishes and exciting gameplay evolutions to create something entirely unique. Fortunately, you won't find any story spoilers here or in his review, and we'll only cover what it is like to play Legends: Arceus on the Nintendo Switch.
Here are the Hisuian forms of Rowlett, Oshawott and Cyndaquil! You know I've got a soft spot for that spicy little honey badger but, truth be told, I'm still on the fence about which one I'll choose for Legends: Arceus.
Naturally, you can see there's quite the shift in artistic direction in the Hisui region, yet you'd be wise not to let the pastel palette fool you. There are hulking Ursarings, spiteful Drapions, lethal Luxrays and more stalking this untamed land. A cautious approach is the recommended course of action, but once you're stronger and more experienced, give the first-person perspective a whirl to watch these cute Starlys and Bidoofs scamper here and there. Look! It's so sweet. Can this game arrive any faster?!
This isn't a glitch or a clever camera trick either. The ZL button is how you focus on a target Pokémon for catching and battling, so if the player holds the ZL button down, they'll enter the first-person perspective. It lasts for as long as you hold down that button and it doesn't work while in the middle of a battle and in main missions. However, it will work while swimming so I'll expect some lovely screenshots of the coasts of Hisui sharpish.
