Pokémon TCG exclusive reveal: Obsidian Flames evolution line

Pokémon TCG exclusive reveal: Obsidian Flames evolution line

Decidueye-ing up this Rowlet line...

Well well well, would you look at the time - its exclusive Pokémon Trading Card Game reveal o’clock. This time we’re bringing you the first look at the English language Rowlet line from the upcoming TCG set Obsidian Flames, which will be released on 11 August this year.

What’s interesting about these cards is they were not guaranteed to be released at all in Obsidian Flames, or at all in English language format, as in Japan they feature as part of the ‘Grass Decidueye ex Start Deck’ rather than the Obsidian Flames Japanese counterpart, Ruler of the Black Flame.

In fact, the ‘Grass Decidueye ex Start Deck’ is one of eight exclusive to Japan starter decks which could imply that cards from each of the other eight decks could also appear in Obsidian Flames. I’d like to thank Ross from PTCGRadio (and an official Pokémon event caster) for informing me all about the eight starter decks - the man is a walking Pokémon TCG encyclopaedia!

In terms of artwork, the standout is obviously the adorable Rowlet, illustrated by Tomokazu Komiya, who has drawn some of the most stunning cards in the TCG, including the Eevee and Snorlax GX promo from the Sun and Moon era.

Obsidian Flames is set to introduce a brand new darkness type Tera Charizard ex, which will be the first set in the Scarlet and Violet era to introduce type-swapped monsters, akin to those seen in the new games. We can also expect to see a fire-type Eiscue ex and lightning-type Tyranitar ex! It should be an exciting shift in the TCG meta, and one that will offer exciting variants for the collectors out there.

But for now, let’s enjoy this reveal of Rowlet, Dartrix and Decidueye ex, which players can expect to get their hands on in August later this year.
