Pokimane Has Been Banned From Twitch Following Latest Stream

It's thought that the ban is a result of a copyright strike.

Imane “Pokimane” Anys, who I’m sure needs absolutely no introduction, has been banned from Twitch. It’s not yet known exactly why, but it’s most likely the result of a copyright strike, as she was streaming Avatar: The Last Airbender at the time.

According to data from Twitchtracker, the streamer was broadcasting the show to around 25K concurrent viewers, so it’s understandable that copyright holders would be slightly peeved at so many people essentially getting to watch the show for free. At the time of writing, her 8.5 million follower profile is just completely missing from the platform, and redirects to a sad little “sorry” page instead.

Over on Twitter, the streamer responded to the ban with an iconic, and very apt quote from the show, writing: “The fire nation attacked.” She has since also added that the ban has been confirmed to be a 48 hour suspension, and she’ll be back on Monday for a 12 hour comeback stream, so she’s certainly not letting the situation deter her (although it’s yet to be seen if she carries on attempting to watch Avatar).

It’s unsurprising that something like this was going to happen eventually - streamers watching different shows with their viewers has really taken off lately, and watching entire episodes of basically anything can only mean impending copyright strikes looming at all times.

In December last year, Anys got herself into a different tricky situation when she accidentally showed NSFW content on stream. She was watching an episode of the anime Food Wars when one of its characters ate something so good, their clothes got blown clean off. Because anime, am I right?

Obviously, the streamer panicked about potentially being hit with a ban, but managed to avoid the wrath of Twitch that time. This time though, not so lucky - though it at least won’t be long until she makes her return.
