Pokimane Wins $25,000 In IRL Squid Game Competition

Pokimane Wins $25,000 In IRL Squid Game Competition

But she chose to split the money with the second place competitor

It feels like everyone with an audience to entertain has been wanting to try their hand at their very own Squid Game since the release of the hit Netflix show. There are version of the kids games displayed in the hit series in Roblox, Grand Theft Auto V and pretty much any game with a creator mode, right now. There’s even Crab Game, dedicated to replicating the series on Steam. And although video games are a pretty good way to play out the events of the show, doing it in real life is even better. Minus the murder, obviously.

As reported by Dexerto, OfflineTV, a content creator group, held their own interpretation of Squid Game - and Pokimane emerged victorious. A number of streamers and content creators gathered for three games inspired by the show to see who could be crowned champion - and after Red Light, Green Light, Marbles, and a play on the actual squid game in the show, Poki was crowned queen - though she didn’t take home all the prize money.

Here are some of our favourite livestream wins and fails...

During the final stages of the game, Pokimane was up against Hasan Piker, a political commentary streamer. He had the upper hand as a far larger person in a game about physically pushing someone out of a circle. He offered a truce: he'd step out voluntarily if she promised to give him half the money to donate to charity. She agreed and once Hasan was out, Pokimane won.

Hasan’s half of the money is going to a charity supporting homeless people, while Pokimane gave her half to the comment section of the video. People commenting with their Cash App tags had the chance of receiving a portion of the $22,500 - an extra $10k was added to Pokimane's split by Cash App - dedicated to that purpose. Lucky them.

The rest of the players went home splattered with eggs and wondering if the event, partly organised by Pokimane, was going to be won by Pokimane no matter what. The answer is: probably, the universe just likes to work like that sometimes.
