Most of us grew up with Pokémon as a presence in our lives. Choosing between Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle was a childhood right of passage. Much has changed since then. In this year’s Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, we’ll be choosing between Sprigatito, Fuecoco and Quaxly, but it’s not just the Pokémon that have changed since the first game was released back in 1996.
We’ve grown up, but so too have Pokémon’s trainers and one artist has captured what some of our favourite trainers look like now. This has brought on the same emotions I felt when I watched Toy Story 3 for the first time, just as a word of warning.

The project is the work of illustrator, character artist, and creature designer Brahim Bensehoul who’s worked on both League of Legends and Call of Duty. Outside of this though, Bensehoul has imagined classic Pokémon trainers like Misty and Brock all grown up.

Misty’s sketch shows her holding onto an adorable Togepi, with a shiny Masquerain flying in the background. Most importantly though, Misty is holding hands with what is presumably her son. Our girl is all grown up. Brock on the other hand continues to be his burly self, standing side-by-side with an Onix.
Of course, we can’t forget Lt. Surge and Raichu who also got the age-up treatment and Bensehoul nailed it. This is precisely how I would expect Lt. Surge to look. Check out some of Bensehoul’s handy work below.
This is making me totally nostalgic. Kanto certainly is one of Pokémon’s most iconic regions (even if some think it’s slightly overrated). If you do wish to further divulge in that nostalgia, take a look at this stunning Gen 1 inspired remake. Ah, simpler times.
