New PlayStation 5 Update Adds Some Long-Awaited New Features

New PlayStation 5 Update Adds Some Long-Awaited New Features

The PS5's Share Factory Studio has been updated with a new feature, Bits - a new way of sharing short gameplay videos.

The PlayStation 5 is home to some pretty great features, for anyone lucky enough to actually get their hands on one. The DualSense controller alone is heaving with neat stuff - from its haptic feedback and adaptive triggers to the light bar (which is set to offer the coolest addition to Hogwarts Legacy).

One of the console’s other neat offerings is Share Factory Studio, a free video editing app perfect for sprucing up and sharing your best gaming clips. Yesterday, as reported by Screen Rant, a new update launched, which is going to take video sharing to the next level.

If you are fortunate enough to own a PS5, please make sure you treat it better than this poor console - at least the guy managed to repair it (although how, I don't know).

The update introduces Bits - basically, a new way of sharing short edited videos from the console. Think TikTok, but directly from your PlayStation: “Bits is a simplified way to personalise and share your gameplay clips and screenshots to your friends on PS5,” Stuart Platt, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s senior producer wrote on the PlayStation Blog. “Choose from one of the many curated Bit styles to quickly create your own version of a familiar or trending meme. If you have your own idea for a Bit, use the easy Quick Edit mode to realise your vision. Either way, the new easy editing mode is ideal for both novice and pro editors.

“Our goal with Bits is to make it super easy and fun for PlayStation gamers to create and share short-form gameplay videos for sharing cool achievements, jokes, stunts, and any other type of eye-catching content,” he continued. “Some of our personal favourite Bits include Taco Tuesday, Sitcom Ending, Get Well Soon, and of course - Oh No Laugh.

The best part is that any Bits you make can be accessed seamlessly from your phone via the PS App, ready for sharing on any social media platform you like. Time to rake in that sweet internet clout.

Meanwhile, if you want to give your PS5 a more physical update of sorts, the next official range of PS5 console covers is available as of tomorrow (17 June). If you live in the US, UK, France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands or Luxembourg, you’ll be able to grab the new Starlight Blue, Galactic Purple, and Nova Pink colours from the PlayStation Direct store. Perfect for matching with the DualSense controllers of the same colour, if you’re willing to pay £44.99 for a splash of colour. And go through the hassle of removing the console’s original plates. I think I’ll pass.
